Been Around the Block
out on a bike ride on my mountain bike through some path I spotted this rust bucket and with the help of some friends brought it home after.

have a look.

everything was on the bike except for

shocks
fork
wheels
rotors
caliper

I got it all taken apart after some heavy hammering all afternoon.

what do you guys think?
worth it or not; junk?
shall I try and do the impossible?

speedometer Reads 2973 KM.

I took the cam cover off and oil pan, looks pristine, gas tank was int he trunk of my car and its in good shape.
cylinders are seized tho.

Check with the police, likely stolen and dumped. Could make someone's day by returning what's left.

If not, sell what's left or look to bring it back to life :)

This would be very unlikely to make my day in any situation hahah

The engine would be a good candidate for a cut-away display.
If you are seriously considering bringing it back to original condition then like SONIC. said first get the VIN checked out. You wouldn't want to restore it for the original owner in case it was stolen.

I think it would be fun as a lazy-day project if you know what you're doing, just so you could have some great before-and-after pics.

If you're not already knee deep in this stuff though, I agree, part it.

Part it out.

You've got so much cash to spend on the basics to get this thing going. Use the dollars you make selling it as bits on something more productive.

But if you do decide to continue with it, you'd have a pretty serous build thread.

If you have the time and want to put the effort in I say go for it. The 350 fours are cool bikes.

Check the vin here: NICB.org. Doubtful it's stolen, but if it is you will have no fun exlpaining yourself when you have to apply for title through law enforcement and the license branch.

I'm with Rich Ard, the story alone of the before and after would be worth it if you can get the thing to run. But getting it to run -- and how much you want to put into it -- is the crucial element.

Just going to ask... was it public or private property you were Mountain Bikeing on?
Granted, it was overgrown in the brush, negrected and siezed. But what if some idiot was "storing" it there and you came along and "found it"...

it was off private property for sure, covered with leaves and dirt and it looks like somebody's trash to me; dumped and forgotten, thats why I decided to take it.

im on the edge on this one, I kind of want to work on it and gain some experience with it, it feels like it would be a fun project but with something of this age and condition it could be a hit and miss. definitely if I decided to do it, it would be a long term project, not too bad if its a couple of bucks a month; no rush piece by piece.

anyway
I couldn't help seeing that block there and started taking it apart, it honestly doesn't look too bad so far.
the decision whether to keep it or part it will be when i take the cylinders off.
will post some pics tomorrow, at work for the evening.

So you were on private property and decided to take a motorcycle?
Thats, um, theft?
Regardless of its condition.

I wouldn't go tow a car out of someone's yard just because it looked like junk. I'd go to jail.

LOL, let me rephrase that, it was not on private property; "it was off; not on".

I wouldn't do such a thing
