I'd like to add another point for newbies (maybe some old hands, too). One of your tools that can be quite useful is THE INTERNET! So, just like other tools, learn to use it . I'm not motorcycle expert (my carreer was in particle accelerators), but often see and help with questions that are easily answered from a parts fische or service manual. Now, sometimes there are conficts, inaccuracies, and things just hard-to-find. But at least look! When even considering a bike, see if you can find an online FSM. And a forum dedicated to the manufacture/style. And factory parts fiche! For Hondas, I use https://parts.southernhonda.com/Honda__.html , which covers a broad range. Wondering if a part crosses to other years? Compare part numbers. Also, some online vendors have cross-usage and alternative lists like https://www.cmsnl.com

Ebay and Google are useful too, of course.

It is a powerful, very useful tool that like other tools can be mis-used and over-used. Thank folks for help, search before asking, and grow your skill using it. Collect links in your (favorites/bookmarks - whatever your browser/system calls them) in a common place like keeping tools in their proper drawer in the toolbox.
