My buddy AL was old, and he was a BMW guy, but far from a purist. He rode a few states over to Illinois on his 78 for a BMW show (he was probably in his late 60's at the time). When he got there he got flamed for having excel rims laced and an aftermarket exhausted mounted. They claimed that he "ruined a perfectly good BMW". He said he was there for 20 minutes before he turned around an came home lol sounds like a fun bunch of guys to hang with.

Wow... first time I heard of excel rims ruining a bike ???

As an owner of a 70 Plymouth Roadrunner, I've been through my fair share of purist bullshit. Every crowd has them. I've heard my fair share of the same talk at some kid with a CB750 or CB350 too. I'm fucking up this BMW, I'm fucking up that Roadrunner and I'm fucking up a GL1000, too. It's like real life trolling.

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

turbo it and stick a 2 barrel weber on it

that should make them happy

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

Ha! I really want to turbo a GL.

On a side note:

I modified the stock gauge mount to fit the 'zuki top triple. Just need to figure out the clock and voltmeter...

Yeah, you need Kawasaki or Yamaha parts and bar controls to mess with the purists.

Why piss off the Kawasaki and Yamaha purists? They're not the bad guys here.

Everybody else chops them, but I'm thinking an extra foot on those pipes would be pretty wicked.

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

Haha! He's referring to my CB750 that's built from Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Suzuki parts. 7 different motorcycles built that bike. The entire suspension is Kawasaki.

Anyhoo, got these super rare gauge pods mounted. I felt it was important not to molest the brackets, and fortunately the lathe made it work...

Dash looks great man, just the same I'm going to have to tell some old dude what you did to a Beemer. Stay off his lawn.

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

2 1/4" exhaust pipe just so happens to be the perfect ID for these fork tubes. Adaption with stock ears...

Thanks, homey. Funny thing, though. I somehow lost the lens/trim ring between Kentucky and Augusta. I hope it's in my brother's truck. Otherwise, it'll cost close to $200 to replace.

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

I believe the proper term from the BMW guys is Frankenbeemer... I call mine the Kraut Rocket

Looking at front fender candidates. First up is an altered 1981 GPZ750 mounted on the VZ frame.

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

Somehow, between picking this bike up in Kentucky and Augusta, I have managed to lose the headlight ring, lens and deflector. To replace the three parts was going to set me back about $200. Fuck that. The bucket is in decent, but not great shape anyway. I found a headlight in the UK, Alchemy Parts, that is slightly smaller than the 8" Beemer. I machined some mounting hardware for what turns out to be a pretty good looking headlight...
