cb360 pamco / starting issues

Hi Everyone,
I have a 74 cb360 that I've been trying to install a pamco ignition system on, and I'm having problems getting the bike to start. The pamco is installed and wired per the instructions on cb360ignition.com. I've verified I'm getting a spark on both plugs and both plugs smelled of gas when I pulled them after trying to start, but the bike just turns over without ignition when I try to start.

Per my previous thread from a few months ago (http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=74967.0) I tried swapping the trigger wires (the white / green wires from the pamco going to the blue / yellow wires from my coils), but when I try to start with that configuration, the bike fires without idling for a couple of seconds and then makes a horrible metal on metal clanking noise.

I'm not sure if it's related, but I just installed a new cam because I broke the end of my old cam while trying to install the pamco unit. I'm worried the loud metal on metal banging noise could be something to due with the cam chain or the cam, but the bike only makes the noise when I swap the trigger wires from the pamco unit. I'm not sure why it's doing that?

I've verified compression, spark, and fuel on both cylinders but I'm still not getting the bike to idle. If anyone has any ideas on what I could try or what might be the issue I would really appreciate it. I can post pictures of the wiring setup if it would help. Thanks for your help.

Hi Everyone: I thought it would be helpful to include a couple of videos so you could hear the sound the bike is making.

First video is pamco white to coil yellow / pamco green to coil blue (reversed from instructions on cb360ignition.com). Bike fires but won't idle:

Second video is pamco white to coil blue / pamco green to coil yellow (correct according to cb360ignition.com). Bike fires but after a couple of seconds it makes the metal-on-metal grinding noise:

I can attach additional videos if it would help. Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

This might sound silly but did you make sure the aluminum pamco part is aligned correctly with the end of your cam? aka the cam pin is sitting in the notch of the pamco part. I was having starting issues (plenty of fuel, spark and compression) and thought the pamco ignition was set properly on my cam, but when I double-checked, it wasnt. as soon as I got it lined up properly it fired right up.

Thanks for the replay thrillseaker, not silly at all. Yes, I made sure the notch in the pamco part is aligned with the cam pin and can feel resistance when I try to turn the pamco part gently against the cam pin so I know it's in the notch.

I'm planning on taking off the left side crank case to make sure the starter drive chain isn't kinked. It's confusing to me that the kickstarter doesn't cause the noise, but also won't start the engine. It's only when I push the electric start that I hear the noise. I'll try to make another video to get a better recording of the noise, maybe that will help figure out what's going on.

Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.

I made a second video to show more of the sound, hopefully this helps figure out what's going on. The bike isn't making the sound when I try to kickstart it (but it's not starting on kick either). Thanks again for all of your help, I really appreciate it.

Did you try removing the left case cover to observe what the starter/chain are doing while it's trying to start? Verify cam chain tension is set and set tappet clearances and ignition timing after? Could your cam timing be off? It actually sounds pretty bad when you kick it. Not sure what that sound is. Some kind of buzzing kazoo sound or something
