I would worry more about it being top heavy on that work bench. But a nice little stand otherwise.

It really doesn't want to tip too badly. Im just hoping the workmate doesn't buckle, bend and fold over.

Its made from pretty chintzy stuff. I shoulda sprung for the real deal Black and Decker - WM1000

Re: The Black Knight, Sketchy engine stand

That is 13 times less sketchy than my engine stand.

Sweet! clean and reassemble (correctly) and get it back in the frame.

Fresh clutch discs, plates and springs going in first. New ignition points plate.
Clean pickup screen and new filter, drive sprocket, fresh little harness for the stator and field coils
Re-torque head bolts and adjust valves. :)

Re: The Black Knight, Sketchy engine stand

That looks stable. BTW, I have had excellent luck with smooth SS threads in aluminum when I give them a couple coats of Neolube (graphite in alcohol) first. Cheap, rough SS threads will screw it up every time.

Re: The Black Knight, Sketchy engine stand

Yea I like thread sealant w teflon its good up to 550 degrees F. Never hardens up.

Really just about anything will work to prevent galling. anti-seize, locktite...etc

The Stainless and aluminum combo is just the worst possible mix for galling.

Re: The Black Knight, Sketchy engine stand

Does anyone know,

Can I just pull the screen from the pickup? OR do I need to pull the complete pickup?

Re: The Black Knight, Sketchy engine stand

I suggested what to do, but you don't want my advice. LOL. I'll say it again anyway. If you remove it, the hardened rubber may crack, so be prepared to buy a replacement. It's really nuts, but Honda put the same design pickup screen on the CB750. Either rinse it clean or carefully and slowly pry it off and hope you don't crack the hardened rubber. The screen is keeping the crap from going back up into the motor, so all the shit is on the side you're looking at. I've been scraping my screen and rinsing it clean on my CB750, but I'm an idiot who half asses everything because I spend too much money on shitty motorcycles at swap meets.

I'd say SS in SS is the worst with no proper lube. Welds itself together real good. Square thread valve caps on the nuclear submarines had to be ground off before they started using Neolube.

LOL. Seriously though, it's really not worth risking having to replace it if it cracks. Mine is basically glued on from years of hot oil, so I'm not fucking with it.

Re: The Black Knight, The Powerplant.

I use brass bore brushes to get between fins. They dont last as long as Id like.

And you got to run the drill slow and cautiously, reversing directions, as they are really easy to ruin.

Stripping the heads on ALL of these was fun.

I pulled the O-rings and rubber gasket out of the head cover & caps.

Heat and Vise Grips did the trick though the last one was a complete bitch, I won the battle.

Swapmeet Louie would've had a cow!!! Miss that guy. :'(

The right tools made pulling the clutch basket a quick and easy task.

Found basket was damaged by the gear. So the fresh replacement is going in.

Gotta dig out the new springs. Got the discs soaking in oil bath.
