I love these jackets. diagonal zipper, but no big goofy fonz collar. An example of the seemingly more common style thats similar but I dont like:

See, the collar is too big and it looks like.. well like the fonz wore it.

I have a vintage red leather jacket very similar to the one in the first pic, and occasionally Ill see them on ebay, but its always so annoying having to search through thousands of vintage jackets on ebay (most of them non motorcycle, or womens styles) just to find one or two of these. Also Id like to know if anyone makes these new, so far all I can find new are the fonz knockoffs.

Don't know what they're called, but I agree with you, I love 'em. I bought this one:

the jacket is called BAD ASS !!..

I like it.. BUT.. I do like the classic Schott Perfecto jackets...
I especially dig the classic biker jackets with the removable fur collars, and D-Pocket in the front...

The Fonz wore more of a bomber-style aviator jacket with the big collar and & ribbed fabric on the cuffs and on the bottom of the jacket.. Not at all a Biker jacket...

AAAaaaaaaaaaa

ha, I guess I was off with the fonz reference, and ya I mean I guess I like them too, but they just arent for me.

kanticoy, I like the one you posted, except Im not a huge fan of the stripes, and my jackets need massive clunky zippers :-D Also quilted padding is bad ass :) That being said, the one you posted is a sweet jacket, and it gives me hope that I can find more like this.

The Triumph website has a similar collar style with a center zipper.

Diagonal closure is Lancer front, from uniform worn by (18th?) century cavalry (Lancers)
I think originally it was more of a cover over conventional center closing jacket to prevent water/wind getting in

You got it . Lancer front . With a Mandarin collar . THey're called just " Motorcycle Jackets " No real name I know of . Maybe a " Rocker " jacket . 80s .

That jacket looks like a copy of a Lewis jacket.

The original jackets by Lewis Leathers have been around since at least the 60's or 70's far as I know. The quilted stitching is one of their trademark details.

They still make a model that looks a lot like that called the "monza".

You see authentic ones crop up on Ebay once in awhile but they generally go for a pretty penny since they're highly collectible. Over in the UK they're more accessible but still generally fetch anywhere from $300-$1000 used.

The style has it's roots in the early aviator days, much like their American counterparts over here. Worn by rockers, punks, and bikers in the UK for over 60 years. An iconic jacket in the UK, much like the Perfecto in North America.

I have always heard that style , with the padded shoulders and elbows, called the European, European Sport, or European Sport/Touring Jacket. They were very popular in the 1980s' and pretty hard to find at a decent price now...... :( :( :(...

my jacket looks similar to the one in the op. no tags or anything, looks like they were torn off. previous owner's name was lance i think. i'll get a pic

got it on ebay and thought it was cool. i've put on a good size belly and it barely zips up. i gotta do something about that.

Alright boys, check out this site; http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Gear/Mens-Leather-Motorcycle-Jackets;jsessionid=0a0101431f431c8f8f289aeb4b00923890876f366f90.e3eTax4KaN0Le34Pa38Ta38Qc390

It is basically wholesale to the public. I spent hours and hours looking for decent jacket that wasn't stupid spendy. The one I bought here is no longer available but there are some good ones here. and the prices are right.

I hope this hooks you up!

The Triumph factory version of this jacket is called The Portland. It has the quilted padding but also a diagonal front zipper- not the smooth front.
If money isn't a concern, look at the Langlitz Cascade (padded version). I think it's what you are looking for. The Langlitz brand is a classic US maker- still hand making these jackets in their old Portland Oregon factory. I'm saving my pennies for one.

What kind of a jacket is this? From what I know, button pattern is double-breasted... I think it would be badass to be seen on my yamaha with one of these on!

its like charlie prince's jacket from 3:10 to yuma
