Ural 2WD project

Moving on. The glory pistons! I found them in a scrappy yard. Then did a small research and that's what I got in the end:

Pistons from Ford Mondeo 93m. 1.8 Dohc.
CTI VW diesel piston rings. Fitted almost perfectly. You actually can see in the picture how much longer the stroke is than original. Piston should be in the level with cylinder surface. Took a time to get the right shape of the pistons and cylinders because Im using stronger diesel rings and a water cooled car pistons in air cooled engine. All I will need to do now just warm the engine a bit longer before hitting the road or forest. But usually it never happens.

By the way these engine cylinders i dug out in small motojumble. They are from 70-80s Russian sports bikes. Only couple thousands were produced by the order of Soviet sports federation.

Made plate with one extra output for cylinders lubrication. Nicked that idea from one of older Audi engines.

Nicked much much bigger alloy sump from a friend and casted my own. Cheaper, faster, much more fun and one more opportunity to consume more beer and have a good laugh!

Please tell me you smelted your own alloy to cast the sump with. This is truly inspiring.

Went to nearest scrap yard and nicked few aluminum parts from newest German car i found there. It was some 2000s Audi chasis mounting brackets. Then visited my one x uni lecturer and asked can i use old die casting equipment they were showing to university newbies. Went there one evening after all lectures made a mold using my friends deep sump and that material (like a clay and sand, dont really know how you call it) cleaned and melted brackets and here's the result.
