Hollywoodmx's XV920 Tracker - Quick Build

HollywoodMX

Coast to Coast
I got my hands another 81 chain drive. Since I have 3 builds going I am planning to put this on the quick path. I will do the fork swap and modern wheels next winter this year I am focusing just getting the bike going quickly so I don't feel I am living in the garage during my free time. I am building some custom parts for this build but nothing too crazy to keep in on schedule.

So I got it not complete, not to worried about that as I have lot of left over parts including some good after market items that I decided not to use in the first 920. I have made progress prior to posting it.

Lots of pics coming.

First things first I needed a tank and a seat, I tried about 10 tanks and I couldn't get the right fit or look so I got a xv750 tank and a hot wings seat.

Now the 750 tank is an easy fit but has a slight cruiser flare which will need to be addressed. It also has a big dent. I tried all the tricks and none of them worked. I took it to 3 body shops and non of them wanted to pull it. I have a plan to fix it.

Kind of a waste doing the paint stripping after learning the joys of sand blasting. Only problem is I found new secrets under the paint of previous body filler which now I will have to redo.. :(

More disassembly it's like I have done this before! ;D

P.S. Removing the enclosed chain is a pita and messy affair getting rid of all that lithium grease.

Some of these pics overlap in my other thread as the parts are mixed in some of these.

This is annoying and slightly funny. I have two sets of forks got distracted and ended up rebuilding to left forks! ;D

It's ok after learning the hard way I can do it pretty fast now. The polishing on the other hand.. takes some time.

So I got the tank streamlined... Much better, still needs a few changes but I needed to get everything mocked up first. It looks pretty good!

If you could create a filler piece for the front of that set you would be golden.

Sorry I don't know what you mean?

Here it is with a moch number plate. I have the head lights on order for a while now. It's the only thing I am waiting for which will mount behind the number plate.

I was debating about chopping the frame to save time bit it looks like I will be doing it.

Are those wheels in gunmetal? I've been following your "TR1" build, which is pretty sick. Excited to see where this one goes. I love what people are doing with the monoshock Viragos, hopefully one day I'll get my hands on one :D.

Thanks man! April-May is going to be a big month for progress on both of these bikes.

I made them gunmetal 'ish, combo of black and metallic clear paint.

To tackle the sub frame I have to get the tank right first. I felt it needed to be lowered for starters so I made new tank mounts. I made them out of canadian pride. I dont suggest people use my vice tricks for safety reasons..lol. ;D ;)

Then I spend the rest of the time getting the seat hight right, getting materials and more mods to the tank which I didn't take pictures of yet.

Oh and I was testing steering stabilizer mounting. This worked. (nothing was bolted tight mind you).

With the 750 tank that looks really clean. I like it.

I've been wanting to get a chain driven XV, add an old Brit bike tank and flat seat, and make a "modern" Vincent Black Shadow out of it. All I can find locally are various shaft drive XVs, wouldn't look right, even though it would be more "user friendly"...

I have 3 981cc chain driven engines + 1 spare chain `shaft` which I bought for $100 on ebay. the plan with the last one was t build it in a XV750 engine, still believe it can be done but later on I found `a few` ready to go engines. I will sell one but live a long way from Tennesee....i`m near Amsterdam Holland :'(

Ya I had to make it look it clean though, it wasn't as clean as it is now. Here look at the before and after.

Doc Chops made a Vincent version, you have probly seen it.

Got the tank to the right height now to start the sub frame. This is the tricky part, getting the new frame tabs aligned properly with a fiberglass seat that overhangs and you don't have access to things, with an open seat this is much easier.
