I am a welder by trade with a mandrel tubing bender and a reckless amount of carelessness towards this bike.

why are we even having this discussion? chop that shit! i think the 18" rear wheel off a kz550A will be plug and play. all the 550s including the 81GPZ had leading axles forks.

Sounds like it's decided then lol would you happen to know If a kz550a/ gpz aftermarket 4 into 1 will work on the ltd?

Haven't finished mine, but I still like the KZ550 precisely because they're unloved.

yep, I picked a KZ750 twin pretty much for the same reason - mainly so I didn't join the "let's all be different together" club !

I dont see why it wouldn't. IIRC the motors are the same but the GPZ had different cams. something else to consider; I have seen guys put Zephyr 750 exhaust systems and carbs on kz650s/kz750s because the port spacing is the same. The Zephyr 550 is based off the old KZ550 motor. I would not be surprised at all if the ports were the same for the zr550/kz550. I have never researched it but it might be worth the trouble for more exhaust options and a nice carb upgrade.

Yeah, the exhaust ports should be the same on many of these KZ motors.  650/750 should be the same but I haven't measured the 550's.  It would probably be close enough to hammer tweak a 650 pipe on it.

I have an old Mac 4 into 1 exhaust for a KZ550 you can have. The headers have some pitting and have a couple of pinholes that need welded up, but it's yours if you want it. I can bring it to the thaw, so no shipping.

Man that would be awesome if you don't mind. The future of this bike is still unsure, could end up in a different form (more on that later) I appreciate it man!

Don't mind at all. It's just taking up space in my garage anyway.

So, have you come to your senses and ordered a universal hardtail kit for it yet?
