Installing CJ360T oil idler gear

Hey All,

I've been lurking for a while, but finally made an account. I'm rebuilding a friend's (1976?) CJ360T for him, and I broke the oil idler gear putting the case back on...d'oh. I bought a new gear, but I can't figure out how to install it -- it won't clear the oil filter. Any tips? Thanks so much!

The oil filter and clutch have to come off to replace the idler gear if I remember correctly.

You need a special socket to remove the oil slinger.

It's possible without pulling clutch and filter but you have to be very careful of the thrust washer. Pretty common occurence when your not paying attention and force things instead of finding out why
