1979 Yamaha XS1100F Standard.....Resto-Mod.....

cklamer

Been Around the Block
So I am almost done with my CB750K Cafe Racer again in the now currect Version 2.0.
But this is now my next project.
Going to try and just restore the bike to some glimpse of it's former glory.
When I picked it up it was a rust bucket. Everything was rusted including the inside of the gas tank.

The electrical side was so rusted I had to cut everything off with a Dremel.
By the way I sold the fairing to another guy that paid for the bike so hey it is a free bike.

Here is the start of the tear down and it has been a slow process.
Also found one of the spark plugs completely stripped.
So spoke to my engine builder and asked him to pull the covers off and check everything out while he had it off putting a new Helicoil in the spark plug hole.
Good thing found out that the cam chain was extremely loose and the cams were way off and the chain tensioner had been rigged.
So reset the cams put in a new cam chain and tensioner off a more modern bike that self adjusts.

The carb boots had split and the petcocks were completely trashed.

Gas tank before Metal Rescue:

Gas tank after Metal Rescue:

The old petcocks pretty much trashed. PO rode with rusted gas tank.

Just a few more pictures.

I have to get it down to the frame so I can get the rusted frame powder coated and the egine cleaned and painted.

Thanks

Re: 1979 YAMAHA XS1100F STANDARD....PITB!

Haven't had the time to do much.
Did finally drain the oil out of the bike before I remove it from the frame.
All I have to say is black mud.
I have no idea how old that oil was but it hasn't been changed in a long time.

Wiring harness off and the head unit. Have a couple of issues I have to repair.
Started getting the wheels off which will be painted instead of powder coated.

This is how she sits in the garage for now. Hope to have the engine out this weekend.

This will not be a 100% restoration since parts are so hard and expensive to find.
So I will make due with what I can find after market.
