1978 Yamaha XS650

did I miss something? looks like your front master cylinder is gone in your most recent pictures?

Yeah I'm kind of an idiot. Ive been riding with the rear brake only because I haven't gotten a new master cylinder yet. But I picked one up at barber I'll be adding soon

Round 2....Back to the drawing boards!

Well I decided I wanted to change the way my seat mounts so I'm also making a new electrical tray. Oh yeah and the seat loop is going back on.

Practiced up on my welding and put my original seat hoop back on. Also put a plate on it for mounting my new seat/lights. Welds are not great but its the best I can do with a cheap mig welder and no gas. At least they are strong.

Used up my last flap disk the other day. I think it will clean up nicely though. Sure is hard taking everything apart and reworking it after I finally got to ride it at Barber for the first time. But I'd rather have everything done right and look right.

I know how you feel man everytime i think im almost done i add something or change somethng LOL Keep at it man !

Finished cleaning up my welds and re did my brace. Also snapped a few pics working on my battery tray. Forgot to take a picture of the frame painted.

Wondering if you could help confirm the stock fork measurement from the axle to the top of tube under weight?
Mine is around 34in. and Im starting to think there over tubes.

Mine are 32 from the bottom of the fork to the tip of the fork cap. So you must have an over two setup. Drop them some through the triple trees and use clip ons. Looks cool I think.

Slowly but surely I finished my electrical tray and .... got my new shorai battery

Is that battery right for the xs650? I went on the site to do a little research and the site suggests a different Larger battery. If the one you have will work on my xs i'd be interested in getting one.

Ok so I was with Eddie Chavez at barber, not sure if you know him or his awesome xs650, but he was using this same battery with his electric start like crazy so thats why I got it. Im still trying to me my wiring the way I want in then I will be able to let you know how well it works. Buts its supposed to have something around 250 cca.

Re: 1978 Yamaha XS650

I email the company Friday and this was the response

"Using the smaller one is fine, other than polarity and size there is no difference.

I did return email him and ask what the difference is between the polarities (just for my own personal information)

The recommended batter for an xs650 is the:
SHORAI LFX Lithium-Iron Powersports battery, Part Number: LFX14L5-BS12
4Ah PbEq 12V eq, "L" polarity, Case Type 5Sku: 4897034420685

The one you have is the: (which i'm going to get)
SHORAI LFX Lithium-Iron Powersports battery, Part Number: LFX14A2-BS12
14Ah PbEq 12V eq, "A" polarity, Case Type 2Sku: 4897034420081 It weighs 2lbs that's crazy

So the "A" or "L" polarity, refers to the side the positive is on the physical battery?
