CB350 Scrambler Siblings

Coast to Coast
DTT BOTM WINNER
The backstory:

After the completion of my last CB350 "UpstateScrambler" (http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=68584), I was really fortunate to have it featured on several online publications. Following the features I began receiving daily email inquiries from people looking for their own. At first, I didn't want to build another scrambler. But, after some thinking, I decided that I would build three at the same time, and to my overall design specs. I sacrificed some of my own ideas to please the customer on my last build, and I didn't want to do that here. I would carry over the ideas that worked well on the last build, and re-design the things that didn't. I put the offer out there, and I had three new customers. (You can see the build offer on my website). Unfortunately, one customer had to back out. So I decided that two might just be a better idea anyways.

I managed to find these '70 and '71 CB350's to fit the bill.

The goal is to build the two bikes mechanically the same, but aesthetically different.

I started off refinishing some parts. Black powder coat and hand-polished.

Wheels were re-laced and received fresh bearings and brake shoes.

After that I turned my attention to the tanks. My original plan was a basic shaped steel tank like the UpstateScrambler.

But, then I decided that aluminum tanks with good rubber mounts would be a better product in the end. I decided to use thick .090" aluminum for durability, and add some knee dents for style. I used the same patterns, but no buck or gauges so each tank would be a little different.

I thought I'd share some plans for the bikes.

-Aluminum front fenders with heavy mounts for bracing.
-Aluminum side panels with indents for uni filters.
-Aluminum scrambler style seat pans.
-Custom 2-1 exhausts. One raw stainless/one black ceramic coated.
-Battery box and splash guards.
-New custom wire harnesses.
-Stainless headlight mounts.

Keep an eye out for a lot of progress on these over the next few weeks.

Watching with interest, as I'm building a 72 CB350 for my wife, sorta along the flavor of the Fox CB350, but without the ridiculous extended swing arm. Particularly interested in seeing how your 2-1 exhaust comes out, as I plan to build my own out of SS.

Awesome. If you check out my last build thread for the "UpstateScrambler" cb350 there are some pics of the exhaust build. That design worked well so I'm carrying it over to these two.

Is that a Cone Engineering 2-1 collector? And may I ask what size tubing that is?

Yes, all cone engineering tube and collector. I made the weld on collector into a slip-on. 1.5" tubing.

I'm going to be offering these cb350 exhausts for sale in the next couple months if you're interested...

Got both tanks capped and tunneled. Just need to weld in the mounting and petcock bungs, then it's onto pressure testing.
