CB360 kickstart/gearbox failure

Jumped on my bike today and i hear this ratchety sound and the kickstart lever hits me in the foot. Hmm whats going on? Go into second gear and ride slow and no noises or movment. Stopped the bike and kick start functions correctly. Started the bike again and put it in first and take off. Well the kick start lever spun all the way around smashing a big dent in my muffler and stopping under the foot peg. The back wheel locked up and luckily i pulled the clutch before sliding on my arse down the street !. Truly a heart stopping moment... Yesterday i was doing 120klm down the highway .
So the kick start is locked only spins with the motor, forwards and backwards. I pulled the side cover off and found a bunch of needle rollers and what look like plastic in the bottom. Also a piece of alloy that had broken off in front of the kickstart shaft.(not the piece that holds the return spring.) The stopper part of the kick shaft spun all the way around and broke this piece off.
So even in neutral the kick shaft spins.
I'm thinking that the needle rollers are from the main shaft behind the clutch? part number 91022-415-008 ? http://www.cmsnl.com/cb360-usa_model1007/91022-415-008-needle_91022377008/
With this bearing collapsed would it bind up the kick shaft like this? and what would cause this bearing to fail? Maybe this thread is my problem? http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=20697.msg214040#msg214040

So whats the best way to tackle this? Can i take the engine out, turn it upsidedown and remove the side and lower cases to get at this? Or do i have to completely disassemble the engine, top end down ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
