Re: 74' CB550 Build
Wow...I have not been updating this thread. I wish the bike were done by now but unfortunately a busy schedule combined with my disease (procrastination) have been making this project roll along at a slower pace.
I have done quite abit. The seat pan has been made, foam added and wrapped with vinyl. The tires came in (Dunlop K70), mounted, and wheels are painted. The tank and headlight bucket are painted. I completely disassembled the forks, cleaned and rebuilt them with new seals. Yesterday I managed to finally get my wires ran through the clubmans. I am sure I am forgetting some but here are some pics of the progress. I will have to add some more pictures tonight.
Here is the initial layout for the seat pan. It is made out of .093 Aluminum that was laser cut to shape. I then used some PEM studs and pressed them into the pan after it was rolled slightly to give it some shape.
I did not want to try tackling my seat because I can't sew. There is a local shop that was recommend to me by Brad (Owned) that is right down the street from my shop. They were really good to work with. Since the bike was not able to be moved, he foamed the pan and then I took it home marked it, and we added some more. When it was wrapped, the foam pulled a bit and so it doesn't fit properly next to the tank. The upholster said to bring the bike over to him and he will make sure it fits right and fix it.
Improper fitment.
Tank and bucket painted. The color really pops in the sun!
Wheels pre-paint and painted
That's it for right now. I was hoping to have this thing running by now so I could head out to Troy's GTG next weekend but that isn't going to happen.
