The Suzuki Stinger

Moa

Been Around the Block
Picked up this on the weekend. An early 70's Suzuki T125 Stinger. It was a $150 bike so I wasn't expecting much, but underneath the heavy patina appears to be a very original and complete bike. Don't know what the plan is yet, as it was just an impulsive purchase. It will need the top end done at the very least to get going.

That thing is neat. I'd love to get my hands on something tiny like that to putt around town on.

No rust in here:

Tiny pistons:

Fuel tank is dent free, and despite sitting empty, mostly rust free inside:

The tiny 18mm downdraft carbs:

The right side bore. If only the sparkplus were left in before it sat, I'd say this thing would have fired up.

Oh man. Those jugs are rough... Looks like a great start to a restoration though.

Should be easy enough to do the top end, however there's a bit more to it as I just found out.

Split the cases and...

...looks like catastrophic main bearing failure on two bearings.

Bearing cages are gone!

Kool bike did the cases get hurt when that bearing came apart?

There is some wear where the left side bearing sits. I don't think this was caused by the failure, but rather was the cause of the failure. You can see in the pic a slight edge has developed behind the locating dowel. This gives a bit of play to the outer race. I'm thinking I can just shim it, though it may need machining first.

Never had one, don't know much about 'em, but they look like cool bikes. This ad in the Phoenix area has been running for months, and the price has dropped $500 or so: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mcy/3549142785.html Cool looking bike, but likely not a runner, so a bit much to park and stare at... perhaps some inspiration though.

That,s a very rare bike and deserves a restoration good find.

I'm not going to chop it up. I just want to start by getting it running and tidying things up a bit.

^agreed, the tank is beautiful. neat little bike. can't wait to see it up and running! two stroke ftw
