    Dec 07, 2018, 11:17:18

    Dec 07, 2018, 11:17:44

    Dec 07, 2018, 11:18:24
  • Maritime: I also just finished all my christmas shopping as the desk is for Jill even though William uses it most. she hates the current one. and William just got a GTX 1070 and a new 24" monitor LOL
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:20:27
  • JustinLonghorn: The one I built is 8 feet long, but it is pretty narrow.
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:25:55
  • Maritime: I'm hoping for 7.5' and about 2' deep average, live edge of course it varies.

    Dec 07, 2018, 11:29:25
  • Maritime: That's a pic of some of what he has
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:29:51
  • advCo: Nice.
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:36:08
  • advCo: The place I usually get my hardwood sells cedar live edge slabs for like $700 LOL
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:36:25
  • Maritime: Hoping I can find a nice interesting piece that will work. Should be able to
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:36:56
  • Maritime: This is trash wood or fire wood here. the spruce and fir is the lumber and paper making wood and sells for the big $$
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:37:44
  • Maritime: Also I am selling an old set of wheels and tires for 150 on the way that will pay the gas and cost of the wood. it's 1.5 hours one way to get it
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:39:11
  • advCo: Good deal, I bought some firewood off a guy in the neighborhood a while back who gets live edge slabs for under $100. I should hit him up
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:47:43
  • Maritime: Yep. for sure. I got a deal this year, my wood guy remembered I use smaller sized logs for my fireplace and I order 2 cord and he ended up giving me 3+
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:48:48
  • JustinLonghorn: I think I used hickory for the desk I built.
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:49:33
  • Maritime: I filled my basement, back porch and I still have a big pile tarped in the yard
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:50:18
  • JustinLonghorn:
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:50:19
  • Maritime: ha, that thing is rad and weird all at the same time
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:50:47
  • Maritime: I am guessing it's up there for the view
    Dec 07, 2018, 11:51:00

  • advCo: Yeah, those are sweet
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:10:26
  • Maritime: Your brckets look clean to Nick, LOL
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:21:38
  • Maritime: They'll look better welded in place though
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:21:57
  • advCo: Ha yeah I have the straight one welded in place. I wish I had a longer brake so I could do it in one piece instead of multiple
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:32:22
  • Maritime: If only we could have all the tools
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:34:47
  • Maritime: I'm hoping the sanding I will have to do on the slab will be ok with the random orbit I have, or my belt sander then random orbit. I may have to rent a floor sander though LOL
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:35:44
  • Hurco550: wonder if you could find a floor sanding company and see if you could just bring it out while they are doing a job and have them run it real quick
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:36:49
  • Maritime: Maybe. I know the local rental guy so I could probably get the sander cheap or free or even just take the slab to his shop and run the sander on it there
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:47:30
  • Maritime: The slabs look pretty smooth in the pictures but that can be deceiving
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:48:50
  • Maritime: my old man has a hand power planer I could grab too that might give the top a nice hand finished look too
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:49:58
  • advCo: Those hand planers are cool but you can leave gouges in the wood if you're not careful
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:54:44
  • advCo: I bet youd be fine with the belt and then orbital
    Dec 07, 2018, 13:55:07
  • Maritime: I think so too
    Dec 07, 2018, 14:07:04
  • Maritime: just planning for the worst LOL
    Dec 07, 2018, 14:07:15
  • Maritime: Now I need to think  about what to finish it with. I'm thinking a simple oil rub but may ahve to go with a poly to survice the use it will get
    Dec 07, 2018, 14:10:07
  • advCo: I like wipe on poly
    Dec 07, 2018, 15:01:28
  • advCo: I used it on our coffee table and its held up really well to drinks, etc pretty heavy use
    Dec 07, 2018, 15:01:56
  • Maritime: Cool. i have looked at that but not used it yet
    Dec 07, 2018, 15:31:13
  • advCo: I put on 7-8 coats but probably only needed 4-5
    Dec 07, 2018, 15:35:59

    Dec 07, 2018, 22:53:42
