Dumb question, air filters+rain

Rode a CB750 with pod filters in a monsoon a few years back, every couple of miles I had to pull the clutch in and clear the carbs out

I rode my DB34 Goldstar to work in the rain once and it kept stalling. Turned out that my cheap baggy waterproofs kept being sucked into the open bellmouth. :-(
