Triton

UK Mark

Been Around the Block
Hi,
This is an old Triton I originally put together in 1993. Its now updated with a Nourish race engine, dry clutch so will have much more power.

Nice ride ........................ it will be nice to see some of the UK members' bikes in the flesh at some time or other.

There's a few shows in the Midlands area [ equal tavelling for most ] - maybe we could jack up a club stand for next year .....any interest.

The Titan boys are always game for an outing Beach.....as long as our Jap crap don't look out of place at the show.

PS....lovely Triton....there were a few beauties at the recent Ace cafe Triton day.

Cheers, this is still the dry build at the moment, but I will be running it and testing everything before I tear it apart for frame painting and a detailed re-assembly. It will retain the tank I painted 20 years ago as that is still looking `fresh`, but everything else will have a show quality finish once Im happy with it.

It felt strange taking fittings off that where last tightened up 20+ years ago by me before starting work on it again.

Id be up for a Midlands meeting next year if any club or group fancy it.

OK - so as not to jack the thread, I'll post up seperately to see what interest there is.

When I originally asked Tim if we could have our own "DTT/UK" area, he was very enthusiastic - and it would be great if we could establish the DTT/UK as a meaningful presence in the UK.

Several peeps were involved right at the outset and were happy to assist in getting a meet sorted.

There's the major Classic shows, but they're all a bit "formal" ....... I was thinking of something like the Cholmondely Pageant of Speed [ something like that ! ] which is a bit like Goodwood without the toffs and wankers [ and has sensible prices ].

It's an interesting show anyway and very club friendly. I'm pretty sure "Surplus" of this parish has a marquee / similar.

Having done shows for the past 40 years [ Auto ], I know it takes a lot of organising. I'm up for that as long as I can get some back up from you guys.

Behave yourself Titans ....................... top bikes will always be top bikes [ even strokers ! ]

I don't see this as a "BritBike" deal anyway ........... in fact a catholic selection accross the board will show the public what the DTT is all about.

Mark...your Triton is a beauty....we were at the Ace cafe Triton show a couple of weeks back, and there were some very nice machines there too.

Yeah, Ive fancied calling down the Ace for a look around, but its too far for me really. Im looking to get over to the Manx with the bike next year for a blast around, so cant wait for that.

I planned to do it this year, but did an engine change which I couldnt resist and this delayed me massively. Making engine plates, upgrading the gearbox to a 5 speed and the exhaust took longer than I thought. Im sure thats a familiar story for anyone putting a bike together.

Couple of pics of engine and headers here. Took four weekends making the exhaust, but it was pretty interesting to do.

Lovely looking Triton mate!

I take it that's your own workshop you're working out of?

I'm sure the Manx will be a blast Mark...I do the TT every year, so can't really justify doing both, but my partner in Titan Performance, Tim, is booked for next year's Manx. You really need to be booking your digs now....the event is so popular, getting somewhere to stay is not easy. Problem then, is to get crossings to match your digs when bookings open in Septmber !

Back to the Triton....I agree, making the exhausts is probably my favourite job. It's great to use your imagination and come up with your own unique design. The pipes are a major feature of the build....everyone loves a trick system. We built this, 2 up one side set early this year, (for one of my 500's), and are now working on a street scrambler. After that's done, we are going to build an up and over system, exiting through the seat for my cafe T500..........

I like those T500`s. My dad had one when I was a kid. Saw one at Donington last August charging around the track on a classic parade and it was pretty respectable.

Im in Nottingham, but will be getting out and about on it.

For a quick re-wind, this is what Ive been up to.............Here is my old frame, which was corroded badly, so I removed the back end, which was good and transplanted it onto a donar that I picked up

Mocked up the Weslake engine and Triumph gearbox to make a set of alloy plates. I slipped a 5 speed conversion into the old Slickshift box while I was at it, but with a Longer Nourish Mainshaft.

Trip down to Bob Newby for a clutch and primary drive belt kit dropped on nice as I kept the crankshaft to gearbox mainshaft centres the same as a Triton.

I made a pair of rear sets and needed a rear brake lever that could fit around the primary cover, so spent a couple of days shaping one up after a making a template from cardboard and alloy.

Picked up a Triumph conical rear hub and lined up the final drive sprocket in order that I measure up for wheel spacers that needed machining. Rear swing arm is wider than standard and came from Mick Hemmings. I can get a 120 rear tyre in this.

The engine plates I made where thicker that my original Triton plates, so my old gearbox adjusters where`nt long enough. Ended up machining a couple from stainless bar.

Only one pair of hands, so I get the tape out to hold things into place for marking out. This is the rear bracket for the primary cover. The section that bolts onto the frame is steel, so will be nickel plated when the dry build is finished. Rubber mounting stops the alloy cover from cracking.

Similar thing for a front bracket, but I changed the rubber mounts so I could use taper head studs with machined washers to make it neater.

Dropped my old front forks in (these rims and front brake are now changed) , plus rear wheel to sort the fairing brackets out. Easier said than done
