Need help: What cool older cars do you guys like? Weird question.

FJ40 Toyota Land Cruisers fo sho if you want to go the off-road route. I've got two. Well, more like one and a half.

I'd go with a 240sx...cheap(ish) lightweight, handles great, and can take pretty much anything motor-wise from an sr20det to an LS-x gm motor..

I miss mine a bunch..I thought it looked rather nice(that's my old one up top...it met an unfortunate end with the backside of an suv on a rainy day)

Ford 5.0 into a 1985 RX7. More than twice the horsepower, three times the torque.

Bring the hate, I love it.

Sweet!!

Any idea how much the 5.0 weighs vs the rotary? Are you going to have to punch a hole in the hood?

Hahah, that's what people always wonder. "OMG UR GONNA THROW OFF THE 50/50 WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION"

First gens never had exxxactly 50/50 distribution, but that's besides the point. :p

As far as the weight difference goes, maybe like 460lbs VS around 375lbs? I'm guessing, but that 460lbs is a factory 302. Strap some aluminum heads on, smaller starter, etc. and it gets even lighter. Really doesn't throw anything out of whack... I just get a shit ton more power. AND TORQUE. No holes in the hood, everything tucks really nicely into the Rexs' engine bay, it's crazy.... It's like it was made for the V8. The swap is simple, flip the stock RX7 crossmember backwards, and buy an adapter for the trans. of your choice, I went with a (fully built) AOD. With a T5 I think I'd just sit there all day spinning the back wheels in 1st gear. Been talking to a guy with my exact swap, more or less, his 302 is carbed not fuel injected. Bone stock engine and Mickey Thompson drag radials and he ran a 13.1 1/4

If any of you guys are interested check out http://www.grannysspeedshop.com/ they're the go to guys for 1st 2nd and 3rd gen RX7 V8 swaps. You pick your poison, 302, 350, LS1, hell they even have parts for a Nissan V6 conversion.

It has a 5 lug swap, utilizes 2nd generation RX7 Turbo II Calipers front and rear. OEM BBS wheels from a 2nd generation convertible. 11lbs a piece!

Front: (Wheel well is now painted black, like the rear. Nice and clean)

I have a buddy who did the rx/5.0 swap. one of the most fun, and terrifying cars Ive ever driven. you really need to beef up the suspension if you go this route. The car really doesnt like to stay pointed in the direction you choose with the 5.0.

If the '02 doesnt work for you I recommend one of these. This is my second sixer. Have driven them for around fifteen years. They are so reliable, and cheap. Plus I think they are one of the most beautiful cars ever put into metal. I have a saving account just for an "m" version.

I'm queer for most of the '70s Japanese stuff, first gen preludes can be sweet, but far and above has to be the first gen Celica:

yeah but the question was: "What cool older cars do you guys like? Weird question.".. not: "what vintage import do you like?"

and I like the 68-70 Dodge Charger with the 447 Magnum or 426 Hemi

Hell.. I'll gladly take the Joe Dirt charger that was made to lool like the Plymouth Superbird.

I dont like the old datsuns and little beemers...

Love the Omni GLH (Goes Like Hell).

Here's a couple of my own suggestions

Lada Niva
Michur_Pol_92LadaNiva_RR.jpg

Mazda MX6 GT or 626 GT (2.2 turbo)
I had a 1991 MX6 GT with the boost turned up a bit, was a blast. Should see the look on some people's faces when they get pulled on by this (yes, that's how it looked for the majority of the time I had it).

the 2002 is a beautiful car.. still kicking myself in the ass for not buying the "barn fresh" on i found a while back..
the crx's are amazing for the age, handles like hell, and with a simple swap and turbo setup itll do 11's and be daily drive-able..
and of course you have to love the datsun's.. the z's, 510's are sick, and the 210's are rad as well.

a couple of the cars ive always wanted that noone seems to like are the old volvo p 121 or 122 coupe, p1800, or a volvo 242gt..

another random jap car would be the 84-87 crx si or civic si. ive had one of each, both bad ass cars. the civic hatch si came with sliding/reclining reat seats in 86! simple torsion bar front suspension, solid beam rear, and you can take an old 86-89 integra motor/trans/spindles and have a nice little monster, i did it, it was a stupid fun car.. reliable as all hell.

or, you could search the country for a vw notchback.. its a type 3 like the fast and square, but it has a trunk, and its sick looking..
