$100 CL find, a 1981 XS650, ugly, just the way I like an old bike to be, I can do anything I want to the old beast and I haven't destroyed a museum piece.
The rest of it is was in a 5 gallon bucket.
I finally have a place to work on it, we sold the horse, I called dibs on the barn. I got ambitious this weekend, depsite the fact that my "garage" is frostbite central, and reduced the XS to this
And this
The idea is going to include this bodywork, shown here crudely cobbled up
the fairing and seat came off of a Ducati I used to won...I streetfightered the Duc and kept the bodywork. The seat is from a SS lightwieght and I think the fairing is from a vintage SS. Fitting the seat will be the easy part, figuring out how to install the fairing will be challenging. I do have the birdcage for the fairing, which helps.
There seemed to be extra stuff on the bike-since I'm going for a very minimal look I spent the afternoon shaving stuff off with a sawzall, BTW, a brilliant tool, highly recomended for all sorts of work.
Next I hunt down some tubing to work up the seat/rear frame, the battery will get relocated under the seat, leaving the area behine the carbs open and clear.
Oh, and I'm going to attempt to finish this in time for the Anchorage bike show at the end of March. Guess I best get busy, eh?
