Here's a pic of my 72 Commando. I built this up from a basket back in 2001. Last summer I got it on the road again after a few years of being preoccupied by my Busa. The tank is a pattern Norton production road racer piece, the tailpiece of unknown origin was found at the Dave Sproul Swapmeet, The pipes are "S" types patterned after the factory.

I grafted a XS 650 yamaha fork into the stock triple trees then added twin disks and calipers. The rim is a rear 18" rd rim mated to the xs hub. The disks are still quite heavy even after being drilled.
I like the symetry of the twin disks and love the stopping power.

This year I'd like to either replace or have the carbs sleeved. As well I've an alloy fender waiting to meet a fork brace. I've an alloy tank thats been sitting on a shelf for a long while as well. There's also a repaint and..and..and.

You get the picture.

This is at Sportbike Rally in Parry Sound last year. The spotless alloy tanked bike is my friends Commando- I bought the black Norton from him in pieces. Here you can see the ventilated primary cover- courtesy of Crossroads Performance in Somerset Wisconsin.

I rode his bike in its early stages and fell in love with the torque and the sound. I've got this one pretty close to what I want- it's capable of a quick run down a twisty road without making excuses.
Its a slow old thing but that doesn't mean the throttle stays closed!

Yooo!!...NICE BIKE!!... Wanna sell it??...LOL.. Just kidding..
Welcome to the board!!..

Does the fibreglass tank have a strap holding it down? I'm trying to source one for my project bike, but haven't found even decent pics of the things let alone a place to buy them.

It's a production part and thus designed for the Commando- two studs thread up into the forepart of the underside of the tank. These then are fastened down with nuts, resing on rubber spacers.

I think Unity Equipe makes them for their jellyfish short circuit tanks. If you live in TO I know a good/great fabricator.
