XL350

Tune-A-Fish

BOTM LOSER Proudly Deplorable
Figure I should just get started on this and with some luck and good parts try to get done a little faster.

The 74 XL is the fat Keihin side draft model (stock image)

This ones been redneck ridden to the limits, but it ran decent, but because the farm always has a welder in the shed and someone welded the footpeg on... I had to pull the right side cover to cut it off safely to get to the lower motor mount, with the cover off I got a good look inside... clutch baskets are a good gauge of abuse and all looks good the sump screen was free of debris with no metal chunks  here are some starter shots: before pick, some sweet high tech bar mount straps, the break down and a shot of the clutch basket.

Trying to move two of my bikes to fund the hobby right now, but I will be looking for a nice tank, some ribbed Acront type wheels 18-18 and and and, plan is to take the simple path, something like the pick below, but street legal.

Motors coming apart, so simple and so dirty it really is a must. Also, I want to Stroke it and add a caged needle cam so the upper case and head needs to go to my buddy for some machine work and make the spacer... can we say Bigger bwhore!

xl350s are too cool. lucky

The shortness of displacement on the XL350 never was a problem for the hot shoe gang... These: trackers are torque monsters and not all of those guys were under 200lbs so kinda like a tractor that can do a 15 second 1/4 mile

Badass:

if you need any parts i pretty much have anything engine/trans related as well as frame/stock suspension
the stock forks are quite good actually elsinore tripl clamps are the hot setup as the bottom is aluminum and offset is close if not same

Thats awesome XB 8)

Might pick your brain some on the good vs bad parts for these, I can get it done, but I am not up on what works and what dont on these just what I read and what BS my old friend and motor mad man in Iowa can tell me. I did get some time in on it today:

Broke out the grease buster and $60 Bargain Hunt power washer today:
This Zep 505 stuff works like the sun on butter  course I blasted water inside so had tear down the motor to dry it out... Piston came out just like you see it, 79.70 is .50 over stock, hole looks honed but who knows, i see new shift forks and other stuff inside, but haven't spit cases yet, cam is shit, rockers shit... guessing oil was intermittent ??? ::) ??? ::) at best on top  well I guess we'll dig deeper, planned to go deep on the motor so all the bad was headed to the scrap bin anywhooo

XB that tire looks decent... still gots nipples on the chicken strips ;)

Washed the rig to finish the day 8)

Lookin good so far Tune-A... Im in for this one, looking forward to seeing what direction you go with this one.
Do you have any photos of the process of putting in the frame hoop? Did you MiG or TiG weld it?

Gonna be fun to work on a more simple project... the "hoop" is a stock part, it has a clamp set to adjust in and out, for why IDK... Not sure id it stays stock or if a new one will be added, the tail section will decide.

Broke it down... The good is the transmission is in good shape, the bad... the rest is shit, crank is sloppy but the bearings are like new??, cam like I said shit, head is shit but can be fixed and line bored if not replaced for less, cylinder is good, need to boil it all... class 1 dipshits used a roller to paint the glue on halves... all in all, right where I expected it to be

The pan looks like a sluice box before clean up, the "tarp" was constipated like 20 year old lab ???

You were going with Web cam, high compression pistons and R&D springs anyway, right? And man, that ain't sludge... that's concrete.

As radical as reliability will allow, why go soft when you need eeeeeverything new, might even find a way to eliminate mass and run a race flywheel, two or three power cells, all LED's, E-Igy and plug it in every night... anyone know how long an ignition will run on a 4 cell battery without a charging system??
