I know I know, another old bike with new stuff so I'll just do a quickie version :p.

Surprisingly this bike I have owned the longest to date out of my 8 years of riding. Bought this in the middle of 2011 and started pulling stuff off.

Started by selling my '04 GSX-R......

.....and then bringing this home.(Is that backwards?) A running, clear title, low mile bike for $600 is hard to pass up!

While my forks and front end parts were coming in, figured I would wrap the side covers in carbon fiber vinyl to update the look

Fast forward a year, out of boredom decided to throw on a beefy front tire , ATV shock covers, and added yoshimura mufflers. Turns sloooooooooow now lol.

Fast forward another year to the present. Last night I just started to fit up an '04 GSX-R rear swing arm and converting to mono shock. Figured I would mock everything up on my parts bike and then for the most part just bolt it on my bike. This season I should finally get this thing to a more "finished" bike with a different seat, tail light, MAC exhaust and back to a 120 front tire.

There seems to be alot more front end swaps going on than rear, so as I will do my best to update and describe as best I can the process I went through to get this rear end to fit.

kudo's to you if you can pull off the rear swap!

i have done the usd front too and it makes the rear look so small.....!
i need a fatty on there! is that a 190??

Thanks! I'm determined to make it work lol. It's a 180 rear from an '04 GSX-R 600. I was able to get the swing arm and everything connected to it for $100. A steal at that price so I said why not lol.

If anyone is looking to make this swap, I also have a '05 GSXR 1000 swing arm ill let go for dirt cheap!

Great work so far! Nice thing about gixxer swingarms is that theyre pretty narrow at the bolt, and I think that one specifically is a great choice for older bikes.

Yeah it's a nice fit, maybe 1/8"-1/4" of side to side play that will easily be taken up with washers I can grab from Grainger. Trick now is finding somewhere to make the swing arm bolt bushing.

Forks are from a '99 R1. The bottom of the stem had a little ring I assume was related to the original bearing that would come on the bike, which had to be cut off for the new tapered bearings to fit down on. Also once the ring was cut off, the tapered bearings would get caught on the "ribs" that are on the stem. 10 min with a cut off wheel and 5 min grinding with my dremel and the new tapered bearing sat perfectly.

The stem poked up through the neck for me to get a lock washer and the big nut on. I put 2 hash marks on the nut an on the top triple to see if the nut would turn and back itself off but after being torqued down, 2 years later hasn't moved at all!

I did that on my first monoshock conversion. I used stock swingarm pivot and bushes to make it fit in a GSXR swingarm.

A better solution is to drill out the frame to take the GSXR swingarm. I'm using a TL1000 arm in a convesrsion and one side is drilled out and reamed to size and I drilled and tapped the other side, so that the fat TL pivot just bolts into the frame.
