Thought I'd post a few on the front end.. I decided on using the 1999/2000 Yamaha R6 forks since this seemed like a fairly easy enhancement...I saw them first on a TT500 Flat Track bike and thought they bolted right up...I was wrong again! But since I wanted a modern SR500 with fully adjustable suspension and modern brakes, I was going to find a way to make them work. The bike I saw used a XT600 triple tree since they would accommodate the 43mm R6 fork tubes..so I bought a used triple tree online (that I still have) but then realized that the steering stem was quite different and I once again realized that it wouldn't bolt up....this bike build stuff was not as easy as it looks! I looked into grinding the weld off the bottom of the stock SR500 triple tree to use but was uncertain about the fit in XT600 triple tree.
I talked to Mule and A&A about making triple trees for my bike...I was willing to pay good money at this point...but both wanted a fortune to make it happen..So I found a guy in New York that could do it for less than half the cost so I went with Mike of Weiss Racing. It still wasn't cheap but the triple trees had adjustments that would allow me to alter the rake; but the best part is that he made me a custom steering stem that allows this to bolt up like stock. I sent him my stock triple tree and he made it happen. What I received was beautiful machined yokes and a perfect fit.
What came next was the fabrication of one of my favorite pieces on the bike...the steering stop. Overkill..yes, but a cool fun piece IMO.
