Anyone Know the Chain Size For a Honda CL200?

I've looked in the service manual and the owner's manual and I can't find any mention of chain specs. The old chain is gone and I need to get a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It currently has a 15 and 37 tooth sprocket set up on it.

CB160 and 175 are 428 IIRC. 530 would be huge and heavy by comparison. Are you sure about that? Even the CB77 only used a 525. Maybe because it's a CL off road ( ::) ) they used a thicker chain. Check the parts list.

Hey!

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like there's a little uncertainty out there, so let me ask it like this instead.

How important is it to get the right pitch and what happens if it get the wrong chain? Will it just be too long and I'll have to shorten it? or will it not fit the teeth on the sprockets?

Everything I find on the web is only helpful if you already have the old chain or the manual calls out what chain you should be using which are no help to me.

Thanks!

The pitch is important because the sprockets have to match the pitch. If you get new sprockets with your new chain, then make sure they all match and you're golden.

Often you can buy a chain at the appropriate length but many times you'll have to remove a link or 5.

I did a quick google search and Dave Silver says it's a 520 by 108 links. Another site said 520 x 94 links.

Sprocket Specialists says it's a 520 series as well.

Do you have a front or rear sprocket? If so please measure the width. That will tell us if it's a 20/25/30 or 428 and we can probably get to the right answer from there.

Hey All,

To close out this thread I was able to get a look at an original chain and lo and behold it was stamped DID 520D S. I assume the DID is the company and the 520 is the chain pitch and the S is the style of chain.

Let me know if you disagree!

Thanks!
