I like the color, the handlebars and the headlight bucket quite a bit. Whats up with the footpeg/shift and brake lever setup? is that permanent?

Thank you. That'll be getting changed shorty, was just to try that riding position

Cool bike. It's like a cafe-tracker-bobber all in one. Noce to see a fellow Long Islander building theses bikes also.
I have a 74 cb200

Ahhh.

here's a clip of the sound with the mufflers. FYI that's in a garage so it sounds a little quieter outside, but with all the snow it'll have to do!

Re: '75 cb550 and '71 cb175 double build!

There's always something:

1. The left side engine cover is leaking at temperature. I sealed that side when it was under 15 degrees and I wasn't sure how well it worked so that's all on me. Already ordered a fresh one and will change it out ASAP

2. There is a little seepage from the gaskets on the top end. Awesome. Guess I will have to do that top end. It's not much at all, will probably wait til the fall to do it. Pissed I have to pull the motor again.

3. I tuned the idle when the bike wasn't quite warm, and we'll after riding for a bit it doesn't want to give up the perfect idle it does when cold. I will have to tinker with it for that one. In the mean time I turned it up a few rpms and it's more than ridable.

All in all very fun the ride, just have to correct the short list.

Hmmmm..... didn't occur to me to check the torque on the head bolts til right this second. To the garage I go!

Re: '75 cb550 and '71 cb175 double build!

So I decided to change my stator cover to one I notched to check the timing and was graced with this: ehhh F**k!

Barring crude jokes that may arise, what is the white mixed in? I have had that once before...

Unless I'm mistaken, that, my friend, is what happens when gas gets in your oil (or more specifically usually water). I strongly believe I will need to now rebuild the top end of this thing. And btw I did not forget to measure for u, will do tonight!

No problem! I already bought the frame. The seller was great and took some measurements for me :)

Oh awesome!

Yeah I am removing my motor tomorrow and will be seeing how far down the rabbit hole I must go. Thinking overbore and all new pistons, rings, etc. if the wallet allows I'd like to do the the valves, springs, etc.

Re: '75 cb550 and '71 cb175 double build!

So I spoke with a buddy of mine that is an engine guy. My plight may not be as bad as I thought. He suggested I change the one gasket I know is bad, change the oil, then go for a few rides and make sure the engine is up to temp each time. He is guessing from being started and not getting up to temp condensation is building up. So I will do exactly what he asked and see what happens.

That is condensation from running the engine without it getting hot enough to evaporate out the moisture. Usually caused from short trips to the store and such, really any time the motor is run but not allowed to get fully hot. Which really isn't a good thing.

Ok - kind of a sigh of relief for me and you Jag. Does the white assimilate back into the oil or does it call for an oil change?

Yeh I did that time, just wondering if I have to do that every single time the bike sits for 2 weeks. I guess it's a matter of at least getting it to temperature.

Re: '75 cb550 and '71 cb175 double build!

On a side note heres a little progress on the 550. Wheels all laced, frame is done, got the copper back from the plater. I didnt think he did a great job but i got it to look pretty good i think.
