also.... anyone have any idea about what these wires are for specifically. i have the wiring diagram but it doesnt look like these are stock. Im pretty sure it has to do with the head light and turn signals because those are not working at the moment.... sorry that this is so vague but its the same for me.

The red and yellow is for the starter switch to the solenoid, the blue with red is the oil indicator light, the light green is the neutral switch light, dark green is ground, dark blue is brake light switch.

Hey, my first time posting.. my first bike build, it's an 82 cm450c. Only a few things left to do- a few frame tabs to cut off, installing a kicker this winter... bought this and an 81 cm400c on craigslist for $300 each. Got the 400 running and laid it down, hit a mailbox the 3rd time out.

Off work for 4 weeks, I took the 450 down to the frame and sprayed it. Picked up the wheels for $30 each at a salvage yard. Rebuilt the carbs, added pod filters- runs a little lean but pretty well. 2 into 1 exhaust from ebay and emgo handlebars. Rebuilt the front caliper, replaced brake and throttle cables. Found a pretty cool headlight bucket too.

The seat is an airtech cb750 from craigslist, the tank is a junkyard 750 supersport.

$20 spray can paint job that looks like it cost at least $35!

Hey Trav, could you give me some details on your front wheel setup? I can see a rotor in there, and I've got a 83 CM450 that I've been trying to switch over to spokes. I picked up a rear from a CM450E, but I can't find a stock rim that would work that isn't a drum, unless I upsize to a 19"

Thanks!

Hello follow cm owners. It's been quite a while since I have posted or moved forward on my project. Many reasons, life happens ha. Getting married and buying a house seems to divert funds and attention. Excuses are done ha. I am having a bit of a resurrection. A friend of mine who is a motorcycle rider just recently got a motorcycle again. He has motivated me somewhat. Also just a want to get on 2 wheels. I'm learning how to ballance funds and time a bit better haha.

More progress has been made this last week than in probably 4 yrs. I was able to unburry the poor bike from my parents garage and get it moved to my home. Also grabbed some parts I had lying around. I have been able to score some side covers and a factory seat core to build a seat from. I have a renewed excitement. I may update my build once I have some meaningful forward progress to show. But the first steps have been made. I'll be lurking around :D. Have a good one guys!

For all the CM owners. Whats everyone experience on wheel sizes? What wheels do you use, and what are the biggest sizes that have fit?
Pics if you can!!!!!

Late to the party but glad to join in. 81cm400c trying to make it look cooler and fun to ride. Will report back with some pics after I get some work done.

@begyed13 I got some 19/18 comstars off of a 78 cb400 from what I read they are plug and play I can not confirm until they get to my door.

Some of the many stages of my build...

Nope that is one of ours, and good for you.

Any advice on cleaning an assembled engine? The inside is clean and ready to go, but the outside could use a little TLC. I was considering 00 gauge steel wool, but I don't want to ruin the finish on the transmission covers. I've also heard of people using coke a cola and citrus juice and a toothbrush.

I feel bad no one has responded. I however have no experience with such things. Lots of engine paint works on this forum, perhaps a search is in order.

I use Dawn dish soap, scalding hot water and a couple long brissel brushes, long enough to reach the bottoms of the fins and elbow grease. One for greasy areas, one for everything else and finishing, might need a small brush for the chain gear area.

Thanks for the info...any idea if there is a clear coat on these engines? Will using steel wool will scratch the case?

Years late, but I realized I never posted a pics of my WTF bike "finished".

There's a shot from a show a few years back as well as the current bike - another cb400t, but a 79 this time.

I think that your wtf is impressive but it needs the engine painted. Lets down the great paint job.

Thanks!

Agreed about the engine, what we ended up doing was buying the second bike in order to clean up an engine with both electric and kick start, with the intention of putting it back in WTF bike, but all of that stuff is in boxes at my brothers house.

Instead, the engine that WAS in WTF bike is in the parts bike now, and I'm riding that.
