Pocket Rocket - 1978 xs650

Picked up my frame and swingarm from the powder coaters. Frame is all bare. Last minute design change and mockup planned this weekend. Frame will need to get blasted/touched up again before powder.

Seat pan is 16ga mild sheet metal. This should be strong enough as the pan rests on the frame. I did decide to reinforce with 12ga plate that was welded in center of the bend. I drilled 1/8" holes for the rivets spaced 1" inch apart all around the pan. I bought a car side door molding for the edges and spray painted with rustoleum! Bottom layer is a rubber/neoprene blend. The top layer is a closed cell foam. The 3rd layer is memory foam. I used an angle grinder and my handy dremel to shape edges of the foam!

Since my tank sits pretty low on the frame it makes clearance a bit of an issue for the petcock I plan to use. Has anyone run a barb from the tank to an in-line petcock before? I plan to install a 3/8 NPT petcock bung with 3/8" barb to 5/16 fitting to a in-line petcock like this.Thinking about runnind 2 or even 1 with a t-splitter to make things look cleaner.

Yeah it's oval shape to fill up that space. I'll need to redo it and come up with a more polished design.

Looks good man. Is the Yamaha logo squished? Or is that just the angle of the photo?

Bungs were ground down so tabs sit flush on the frame.

I really dig your choice of tank for this bike. If you are liking it, don't let the naysayers talk you out of it. As far as the badge is concerned, why not just ditch the Yamaha logo entirely?
