RD400 wheel sprocket... stupid issue

LazloH

Been Around the Block
not sure whats going on here... but this RD400 wheel and sprocket just wont line up for me.

Here is the fiche.

I have the lock ring and the various pieces... it almost looks like there is a big ole spacer on there but it wont budge and im nervous that its not... which keeps me from putting some force on it. It sits flush on the center of the hub..

Anyone have any ideas?

This one is on ebay. I wonder if I have some older model of RD400 rim.... and I grabbed the wrong sprocket.

What's on the other side? Maybe the studs got pushed back and they need to be pushed back in from the back.
From the look of it the studs don't extend past the sprocket mounting, so not sure what crazy sprocket would be required to get a nut on there, unless it's just got a larger diameter center hole

Looking again, I think you've just got the wrong sprocket.
Looks to sit all the way down on the other wheels I looked at

Looks like that may be the case... I think I can see that spacer in the center of the sprocket on that guy.

what the hell is this locking ring locking in place then?

No clue.
Just in case you lose all 4 nuts securing the sprocket haha.

1) sprocket is not correct as it should be on the larger hub 2) sprocket grooves go in to the wheel hub, not out 3) circlip is extra safety if all 4 nuts fell off. I just blue Locktite the nuts and put the circlip in the spare parts bucket.

Flip the sprocket and make sure the flats on the studs are fitting in that groove. Nuts are to stock the studs pulling out and circlip holds the sprocket on. Those studs are a push fit into the rubbers (cush drive isolatic bushes).

Those bushes do not look right though. I wonder if your wheel is off an XS.

Should never be run without the circlip on that wheel.

Lazloh. Bring that wheel over and let's check it out.

If it does not measure 66mm, than you have Daytona or XS wheel??

I think Jimmer is the winner. If the center boss is around 74mm it's a Daytona (79) wheel and needs a different sprocket.

Definitely not Daytona at least of the RD400 flavor. Maybe triumph. Here is my Daytona with original wheels, notice the ridges in the center of the rim where it meets the spokes.
