Throttle cable thread to large for chosen hand throttle assembly

I know there is an obvious solution to buy a different throttle that suits the cable. But is it possible to change the treaded piece out for one to suit the Aluminium throttle I have acquired?

I got rid of the stock throttle as it was 34 years old and looked it and had some no longer used switches integrated into it.

Bike is 1981 GT250 X7

short of de-soldering the end off the cable , finding a thread part that matches and re-soldering the end on, probably not

alternately find a cable that fits the throttle (and the carb and is the correct length)
