Hey guys, just wanted to get some opinions on what the best methods are for polishing aluminum and chrome, preferably without taking the motor apart. Thanks!

for aluminium , you need to remove the piece you want to polish ideally. kinda hard to get into every nook on the bike.

sand off clear, paint, and major scratches with 120-180 grit wet sanding

then 320-400 grit wet sand. then 600. then 1200. then 2000. you want to remove the prev level of scartches as you go.. Then autosol by hand or buffer.

good things take time but you will have chrome like finish with that method.

I just went through the learning process on polishing old bike parts. You'll need to pull all of the aluminum and chrome off the bike. There is no way around it.
For aluminum, I recommend getting a 6" bench buffer, an array of wheels, and cutting/polishing compounds for each wheel. The chrome can be cleaned up by wet sanding with aluminum foil, or soaking the parts in a mix of water/oxalic acid.

I detailed the steps I took polishing aluminum and cleaning chrome in my build thread here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=44487.0
