Here i have a 71 bonneville 650, or reffered to as a t120R . The back story on it is , my grandpa was a triumph fanatic.... Every two or three years he bought a new one and kept the old one for about a decade he did this in the seventies along with collecting various triumph parts and frames along the way.

So when he got put in a nursing home several years ago he decided to give his completed bikes to family. My dad received a 73 trident, my youngest uncle a custom triumph chopper, and oldest uncle a 74 bonneville 750. And me a 71 650, im the only grand kid with a motorcycle enthusiasim so he thought it fitting.

When i got the bike it had 12k on it , was in good shape for sitting for 20+ years without being moved and i had it running in a weekend and idlign decent.

Well i decided it left alot to be wanted in a bike and the only way to get it clean like i wanted was ....... complete resto ......
heres how it sat for almost two years , just a powdercoated frame and tore down on my bench.

no body has chimed in on this yet but i have a question, on the oil cooler their are studs that hold it on, now i think one of the nuts / studs are stripped is their any way to replace this / replacment part i cna get ? its causing a small oil leak.

Turns out the nuts are the culprit not the "studs" which are part of the rocker shaft , threads on the shaft are great but the nuts not so much . So a new pair along with sealing Washers are on their way .

nice resto, sweet sounding bonnie....just that heat wrap going all the way back kinda uglies it up a bit IMO....cant beat that sound though ...im starting a 73 500 tiger next week, enjoy your bike!!!

I kinda dig the heat wrap , I could not Get the pipes to clean up and look presentable . Part of the image with the bike is to honor my grandpa thats why some of the items have been left on just the way he had em

i kinda figured thats why you put the heatwrap that far, nuthing wrong with honoring your grandfather, sounds like a great man..who knew great bikes, kudos for keeping it in the family.

Hopefully here in the next few weeks my dad is going to bring his trident , over for me to get running

Have a question for some of you guys , we had the bike running on the second kick without a battery a few weeks ago , went to start it last Friday , would not start had no spark etc , but I hook up a battery , started easy , unlocked battery Nd stayed running , is this normal ? I have a good new battery on order from the amazon sale

Nice bike man, sweet sound,
I know some Triumphs had a postion on the ignition key that allowed you to to start it up if you found your self out and about with a flat battery !!!! your manual will tell you if yours dose

I will have to check the manual out , thanks for the tip and compliment
