'73 CB 500 Engine Re-Assembly. Cam Help?

PancakeShake

Been Around the Block
So due to various reasons, I had to take the entire engine apart on my girl friends new found CB 500 Project bike.

Now that I have all the new parts on the work bench im ready to re-assemble. However, I have a few questions before I get to crazy...

So the part im worried about it getting the cam chain to be "in sync" (if you will) with the crankshaft. You know, so the intake valves and exhaust valves open and close at the proper time with respect to where the crank shaft is.

I marked the chain, cam chain gear, and cam so that when I put it back together I would have an idea of what position to put them all in, but im not sure if i will get it 100% right.

So my question is, how do i know when I have the cam/cam chain/valves correctly setup so the engine will function properly?

Do I reassemble, then roll the engine by hand to TDC and check something on cylinder #1?
