Best Sounding Classic Bike Engine.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before but, what do you think is the best, sweetest, sounding classic bike engine. I am partial to the fours used in the Yamaha XJ series and the Honda CB450K twins. I also like the sound of two-stroke triples, but not so much the sound of the Yamaha XS four-stroke triples.

Can't argue with the RC166. I really like the sound of old Air-Heads, and flat-head Harleys. And of course my XS650 ;] Sorry no videos.. Ill dig some up

the nr500 at 20,000 rpm sounded really good echoing over the hills at laguna seca :)

Gotta disagree here. XS850 with a Kerker is one of my favorites.

Will this become a thread where people just post the coolest they can come up with anywhere, or are we talking about bikes that we've actually owned or ridden?

My 919 Hornet with dual Two Brothers is the best sounding bike that I have owned.

Kawasaki H2R sounds like it wants to kill people in the most heinous way possible.

i would have to say its hard to beet the sound of any triple anything,120 crank makes for a melodic harmonic sound like no other
but i do remember the sound of the nr500 almost like it was yesterday ...but it was what 35 years ago :p
i dont care for the normal inline 4's sound any of them they are all just screamy...the crossplane yamaha and suzuki's do sound nice tho

I love the idling sound of 2 stroke 2 cylinders engines like my RD.
But the best sound i heard the last year was a perfectly restored GT 550 triple :) pop pop ppppop pop

Never heard an XS850 with a Kerker. I have heard XS750s stock, without mufflers and with generic mufflers and they sounded just ok. Totally agree about the H2R.

I have a nice GT380 with a set of Bassani chambers. It sounds real nice.

I'm sure the best is based on personal preference and what you grew up loving.

That being said I'm willing to bet the sound of my supercharged 77 kz1000 might win a few votes.

I love how it looks like the tach is almost mechanically linked to the throttle. Not much lag there, probably due to not having a large mass flywheel or crank.

I was a CNC machinist for a while, and it's not until you see an end mill spool to 12k r.p.m.that you appreciate that that thing is cranking close to 20k r.p.m.
