Honda CB350 / Fitting a new Tank

Hey Everyone,

I just picked up a pretty nice running 1972 Honda CB350K. The guys I bought it from was very mechanical and replaced things like the points, brake, fork seals and spring, etc. Since purchasing the bike I've removed the air box and replaced them with pods. Replaced the tires with 100/90R18 and 110/90R18 Bridgestones. Changed out the spark plugs. Added a couple of "In-Line" fuel filters and thats about it.

The tank has a liner in it that is cracked and flaking. The condition of the tank is also pretty bad, so it's not really worth my time to clean it out and do a bondo job. I've been to a local motorcycle junk yard to see if I could fine a half decent CB350 tanks, but came up empty handed. But I did find a couple CB400 tanks. I was wondering if anyone would know if a 400 tank would fit on a 350 frame? I don't mind the style, but wondering if you guys know of any other tanks that would look cool on the bike, but doesn't cost $500.

Cheers and Thanks for any input.

Is that a 400F tank or a 400T tank? Either way, any tank can be made to fit if you are able to make it fit. Most likely the front mounts will need widened/narrowed and the rear mount will need fabbed as well. And check to see where the petcock and lines will be too.

Did you or the PO put wider wheels on? A 100/90 front and 110/90 rear are too wide to run safely on the stock wheels.

I put them on. I looked around and saw thats what most people are using since it near impossible to find 90/90R18 and 100/90R18. What am I going to run into since I put those on?

Ballooning around the edges, less than optimal handling, etc. Being that you are only slightly oversized it won't be a HUGE deal - but there is a reason most tire manufacturers list a recommended rim width.

I thought Avon makes both 90/90 and 100/90 tyres?

I am not sure you like a stock tank or cafe racer tank. For stock tank, I has 1 but it got rust in side and the bottom has been re-welded. I has sandblasted its and eletrolysis for 1 full day. It look clean now. All emblems are still but not real beautiful. I don't know the price and it cost you approx 100 to ship to US

I also making a new gas tank for CB350 and CB450 (you must very careful as CB350 frame and tank are differed to other frame so as the tank bottom). My tank is 24.5 inches length, made of 2mm aluminum sheet (A5052 not cheap stuff) and replica of HRC tank. The bottom will fit CB350 and CB450 (I own both of these bikes). The price is 225 to 250 + 100 shipping cost.

If it is ok, contact me at vietbac_pham@yahoo.com

Hey Viet can you post pics? I'm looking for a new tank for my cb400a. Was looking for peanut style tank because I dont like the stock tank but I dont want to do any modifications to the frame for an aftermarket tank

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to update you guys on the progress that i'm making with fitting a CB400 tank on my CB350. Here are a couple pics and an Idea for what the final paint for the tank might be. Let me know what you think.

Where do you get that decal? I know one guy who sells them, but did not think you could get them in those colors.

I just found that image on line searching for honda norton logo. It actually brought me back to a posting on this site. Anyways, I'm a graphic artist and I've taken what I've found online and made into a vinyl cut out that that will serves a mask when I paint the tank (Gold). But honestly you could take that to any shop that cuts vinyl and get it in any color you want at any size.

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to share some pics of the new seat that i'm making. This will be my first time making a fiber glass seat. Hopefully it will come out pretty good. Enjoy!

nice job on the fiberglass, esp for the first go around. Will the seat sit up that high because now it seems to be a tad higher than the tank even.

I have about a inch to lower it. I need to cut/remove the rear fender still. It's going to be close to peaking over, if not level with the top of the tank. But if I need to I can always try again with a different mold. Thanks for the support.

I just recently got a NOS cb200 tank but it is missing the gascap latch and the center rubber and trim, you wouldn't happen to have any of that lying around would you?

Nah, I actually am taking the one off my CB350 tank and putting that on.

Hey Everybody,

Just adding some more pics of the seat getting closer to being finished. Thanks for looking.

I pulled out the sewing machine and made this cover all by myself. Its not perfect, but gets the job done.

Set up the taillight on the bike I bought from DCC. It doesn't fit just right, so I might lose it or just wait till next winter and make a new and better seat. The tail of this seat is all kinds of funky.

Finally added the snaps and HDF to the seat, not to shabby.

Cut the front fender down. Just need to grind it to shape and smooth it out and its ready for paint. Also bot some boots for the forks too.
