Twisty, hilly roads through farmland and small towns then up the river road next to the Mississippi, a stop at the casino and back home.
Anyone else? I personally would love if someone had a good route up by Duluth/North shore of Lake Superior.

Edit: Bummer-It didnt embed the map...oh well-it still links right to it

while you on this subject....

i'm looking for a straight shot from chicago to minneapolis while avoiding 90 / 94 expressways. At the same time i would like to make it a one day trip.

any suggestions.

The city itself or suburbs? If north suburbs then...

Havent been on the Madison to LaCrosse part in a few years but the River route from LaCrosse northwards is pretty sweet

Either side of the Mississippi river south of La Crosse north to Minneapolis is amazing riding. Look at Highway 61 on the Minnesota side and 53 on the Wisconsin. Both have loads of little towns with small cafes, restarants and bars. Big beautiful bluffs, light traffic, good roads, moderate traffic and few cops. It is my own personal racetrack, particularly the county roads coming off either highway. Empty, hilly and curvy. More deer than people.

People come from all over the states to ride what is out my front door. The national Vincent rally was held two weeks ago in Cannon Falls as to take advantage of our roads. Colors are beautiful right now and will get get even better in the coming weeks.

Scenic highway 61 north from Duluth to the Canadian border is magic. Not for the warm-blooded, I grew up swimming, diving, paddling and surfing in frigid Lake Superior. The South Shore towards Michigan is beautiful as well and usually warmer. Bayfield and Madeline Island are great places to visit. Great roads, little traffic and few cops.

I'd love to ride the North Shore in Sept/October-probably not this year but hopefully next fall. Cruising through all those coulees along the river has gotta be a blast. Hell, they're fun to drive in my Saturn :)

I can attest to this. I am from La Crosse. A good one is the figure 8, LaX, down to Genoa, cross over, down to Prarie Du Chine, over, and back up... Also up through Winona to Red Wing is a beautiful drive. As stated, look out for deer, they can be a real pain in the ass. Also, cops in the Stoddard area usually, so be careful there.

I love driving hwy 61 - beautiful scenery. Now that I have a bike, hopefully it will be done in a few months and I would definitely be up for a ride near duluth...i lived there when i was young and love the area.
