First Build - CB750

Hope you didn't cut or toss that "unicorn" top triple clamp.

Points for keeping the fork brace.
Really rethink those pods, Emgo is French for crap.

What are you going to run for an oil tank?

Um. no comment on the old top triple.

On the fence with the pods. Everyone is telling me to get the good ones. These are the cheapies from DCC.

The oil tank will be a custom one similar to speedbump's cb750. I was going to have him make an exact duplicate for me, but he didn't have time. The guy that machined those badges for me is going to cut the oil tank, battery box, and lower triple front plate to mount the signals and headlight.

top clamp is worth a few bucks.

pods always suck on a sohc. with the crap emgos its the worst.
if you must try some Uni or real K&N with the internal stacks.
About the only none stock air box intake that actually works is the anti pod set up from SOHC4, spendy though.
Pods are just one of those "for the look" mod that has almost no real upside and a ton of downsides.
Before we get there, no one will have a "use these jets" formula for your bike so 3 or 4 complete sets of jets will be needed to try and tune the bike.
With all the money spent on pods, brass and time one could have just bought a real upgraded rack of carbs for not that much more.

when doing the oil tank watch out for smaller then OEM lines.
Stock is almost to small for the bike, dont starve the motor for oil.

Thanks,

I will do more research on the intake. I have been reading up some but really my first foray into this obviously. I do like the pods because of the amount of visual space it frees up. I'm a designer so aesthetics are important to me.. I know it shouldn't be at the expense of performance! ☺️

Finally getting some shit for chopping perfectly good oem parts (deservedly so). That's what I'm here for. I'm surprised at the lack of ball busting! Maybe they are being gentle because I'm new. That's no fun.

The new tank will hold slightly more oil than the stock, and I am reusing the oem lines and fittings.

Thanks for the tips, keep em coming.

Took a break from mine to help a buddy replace pull cable, rewire the right controls, and replace grips on his cb550.

I took off covers that may need removed for maintenance and taped off some, but fully assembled otherwise.

Note too self...I don't need to take it all apart! SWEET!

Those are killer grips on your friend's bike.

And hacking up OEM parts = bad? So the fact that I chopped up my stock seat pan...and another...and them bought a custom seat...ooops. And what about chopping off all of those tabs? haha. I and kind of mixed on this. If the bike is totally pristine, stock, and rare...maybe you should keep it as it. But then again, if you always have to work with a POS, then its going to be a PITA. Have fun designing and building what you love. We are all here to learn, share, and give each other crap as needed. 8)

I had it running well before I tore it all down. It didn't need a rebuild, so I left it mostly whole to paint. I took off the oil filter cover, points cover, clutch cover, starter cover etc.

Those grips are amazon finds. He had the typical gum rubber grips and didn't like them.

Went junkyard diving for parts today

I bought them all! I'm not sure if I want to give them up. The blue and green ones are pretty beat up, and bad lining. I'll take better pics on Monday.

Haven't decided on the helmets yet sorry.

Painted the frame instead of powder. Used the same low gloss enamel as engine and exhaust. Using my screen printing flash dryer to help the cure. You can see my engine in the back positioned and anxiously awaiting the frame to be dropped over.

Also, ordered the wrong chain. Got 530/104 based on a website that tells you the correct one based on year make model. It appears I need a 630/88 . My rear sprocket is 41 for the super sport.

I'm going to try to have a roller by the end of the week. Just need to take Emory cloth to the rotor and find all my spacers. Also need to install the new bearings once the frame is cured.
