My dad wants to turbo is VR6 powered mini but he’s been fighting electrical issues. It’s a good lump though. I’ve always wanted a sleeper wagon to ride the family around in.

Sleeper wagon

Nice. I have a VR6 sitting in my driveway right now, too. No turbo(s) though...

Crank sensor is a common problem on these engines.

I think crank sensor can be problematic on most VAG cars!

The VR6 is a great engine, I was very tempted by a Passat with the 2.8VR6 and 4motion. The platform of the 1999-2005 Passat is the same as the A6. The VR (single head narrow 15 degree V) engines never made it to Audi cars, only VW.
The A6 is a traditional 60 degree V with two separate heads and a turbo on each bank

Ended up being stranded in bumper-to-bumper traffic in pouring rain in Montgomery, Alabama in a GMC camper/van. Ohio license plates on the van and stranded in Montgomery the day after Ohio State beat Alabama for the first NCAA football championship. Problem? Needed a new crank sensor. Was happy to get out of there as soon as it was fixed!

CPS are such a pain in the ass. Had to change one out on my XJ. They could have placed it better.

It seems crazy that so many manufacturers have issues with CPS’ yet they don’t think about the position being serviceable!

Some of the Audis had them. I know the A3 in the early 200s had them and they came in the TT as well. Late 90s A4 as well, I think? Great engines though.

Anyway, here's my baby:

Those are some sweet VW’s!

Here’s my fathers Mini. He drove it daily up until the electrical gremlins hit. The exhaust is rather tight in the back as it’s mid engine but there is room for turbo on the rather large hand built exhaust.

That’s a badass mini!

Love to hear that thing go

Picked up this 86 XL600R last night for a song so I can be butt buddies with Mr. E.

Needs a few things and a whole lotta love but it’ll be on the back burner for a few months.

It sounds a lot like a VR6 but with a much more open exhaust. It has a light flywheel and has been dry sumped, otherwise the engine is effectively stock. He had a turbo kit picked out and was working on finding the additional cooling to allow more horsepower but last fall, after something like four years of perfect reliability, the engine would only run occasionally. He's been through ECU's, dashes, all sort of sensors, but no luck. Sometimes it runs for 1 minutes, other times it runs for 1 hour, but it always quits eventually. The car is about 2000 lbs and has 50/50 side to side and 45/55 front to rear weight ratios. It handles very well, being full tube frame it's more race car than mini.
