I just purchased this 72 450 for $200 because the car dealer that had it fired his motorcycle mechanic and couldn't get it working. I actually bought a CB750 to ride and this one was an afterthought. Turns out I am enjoying working on this one a lot more than my 750.
The dealer had purchased a new throttle cable and clutch cable. and before he fired his mechanic he had the carbs rebuilt. I don't know what condition they are in, but hopefully it was all done right.
I got the thing running in about 15 minutes by simply cleaning out fuel lines, spraying some fuel into the carbs and giving it a few kickstarts. It fired on about the 6th kick or so.
The next day I started looking at the clutch, and realized it wasn't disengaging at all. I played around with the adjustments, but no luck. I even pulled the cable out all the way with some vise grips, but it wasn't doing anything productive. After looking at some exploded parts diagrams and taking the cover off of the clutch cam arm I realized it was missing the ball bearing. I just happened to have an old bearing that had 5/16" balls in it, so I pressed one out and everything worked perfectly.
I realized that i had stumbled upon a pretty good deal. The dealer said he had about 400 in it plus parts that I have receipts for equaling another $150. So I got his $550 investment for $200 all because he didn't know how to read a parts diagram. ---BONUS!!!---
