New Signal & headlight NO DIAGRAMS! Tests?

Been Around the Block
I have new signals and headlights and I need to figure out what wires are what. Is there a safe test that I can do to figure this out? I have an old battery that still has a charge left in it, could I use that to test them? If so, how do I do it safely so I don't blow the battery and/or the component or myself. Thanks for the input!

I'm assuming you mean that you have 12v motorcycle battery.

Get (or make) two fused leads to probe the wires. If you don't use fuses directly off the battery the light will take as much current as it wants and then the light will blow out. The battery will be fine. The point is, unless you like buying light bulbs, you want the fuses to blow first.

For signal lights, a 2A fuse should do. For the headlight a 10A or 15A will do.

Better yet, find a wiring diagram. Black is almost always ground.
