Factory uses 16 gauge for almost everything, but I alternate between 14ga and 18ga depending on the purpose of the wiring run.

Depends on the connection.  3.9mm (sometimes labeled as 4mm) are the norm for stuff like turn signals and most aftermarket connections.  Everything else differs by model.  Multi-pin spade connectors (for 6.5mm and 2.9mm) are quite common, too.
