Black wire has continuity to ground

Putting project 1977 CB550F together, installing the wire harness, which has been altered by the PO, I have found that the black(switched hot) and the green(ground) have continuity. I have traced this back to the regulator. Black, white and green all have continuity. When I unplug the green from the regulator I do not have continuity from black to ground in the wire harness. Is this a normal state? It seems to me when I power the harness up I will have a dead short from the switched black to ground.

The original rectifier and regulator. Regulator has black, white and green wires. If I unplug the green from the regulator, no more continuity from blacks to ground. Normal?

There should be some continuity, yes. Does your multimeter read resistance? How many Ohms between the green and the black terminals on the regulator?

Thanks Sonreir. Appreciate the response. This is the third 550 I've done, guess I never checked switched hot to ground before.
