In line resistor Ground

I bought a handful of these online ceramic resistors to replace the stock one that I chucked somewhere along the line while rebuilding the XL. The stock resistor has a steel mounting plate that grounds it directly to the headlight mount or something. Can I run one of these resistors direct to the harness ground? I don't want it to burn up any wires. Or am I better suited to run a separate strap to the headlight mount or something like the stock setup?

Yup. Green wire from the headlight output will be fine.

Right on. Thanks.

I was going to wrap some heatshrink around it and tuck it inside the headlight bucket, will that be safe?

Yup. That'll be fine. Most of the large ceramic resistors are rated for 10W. It might get a bit warm, but shouldn't be hot enough to damage anything.
