I am pretty sure Cycle World had great reviews for handling on those, you can dig up the article and read up somewhere. The Soooooper Trap is spot on period correct.

Thanks Tune.  There's an article somewhere that someone sent me about a guy that rode one of these across the country, but I can't remember the link. There are definitely plenty of stories that praise the merits of this bike.

That looks like an enduro DR350, not the tamer dual sport DR350S, it'll have higher compression, a hotter cam and possibly a flat slide carb.

You're exactly right.  It's a DR350, the dirt model, and another reason heads can be hard to source since they ran two completely different heads all the way through 1996. Carb is a Mikuni TM33 flatside.  Still a 6-speed, but different gearing ratios.  Compression is the same though, at 9.5:1.  Cam specs are the same too.
