GS 750 Cafe - Wiring Left Switch HELP
« on: Jul 20, 2017, 11:43:37 »
ello Guys!

My name is Aris and i am from Mykonos, Greece,

Currently i am building a GS 750 into a cafe racer. I need your help as i am trying to change the left original switch to a aftermarket and i am completely new with the wiring.
The cables that are going to the the left switch from the main harness as you can see in the photo are:

ORANGE: Power from ignition switch
WHITE: Lighting switch to dimmer switch
YELLOW: HIGH BEAM
GREY: ILLUMINATION LIGHT
BLACK: Left hand turn signal
LIGHT GREEN: Right hand turn signal
LIGHT BLUE: Turn signal main
GREEN: HORN
BLACK/WHITE: GROUND
WHITE RED: to Rectifier
WHITE BLUE: to alternator

On the other hand the aftermarket switch has:

DARK BLUE: LEFT TURN
RED: TURN SIGNAL MAIN
LIGHT BLUE: RIGHT TURN

GREEN: SPLITS TO 4 CABLES
GREEN 1 to HORN
GREEN 2 to Light Signal
GREEN 3 to LIGHT SWITCH
GREEN BLACK to LIGHT SWITCH

WHITE BLUE: SPLITS TO 2 CABLES
WHITE 1 to LIGHT SIGNAL
WHITE 2 to low/high beam

GREY to HORN
YELLOW to LIGHT SWITCH
BLACK to low/high beam

I will really appreciate if you can help me with the wiring if this is possible to be done with this switch.

Thanks a lot

OK... this is a bit weird with all the green wires, but let's try this..

From your new left control to your harness:
Green -> Orange
Black -> Low beam on your headlight (white)
White -> High beam on the headlight and the dashboard indicator light (yellow)
White/Blue -> Also to high beam
Blue -> Black
Blue/Black -> Light blue
Red -> Black
Gray -> Green

Also, based on the configuration of the switch, it looks like you're going to need to change the wiring for the horn. There should be an orange/green wire going into the horn. Disconnect this and, instead, ground the horn to the frame from that terminal.

They white/red doesn't seem to be on the diagram, but if you have a multimeter I can walk you though the steps of testing it.

Yes, you are correct.

If you have a new model regulator/rectifier, you can connect these wires to each other.

You can, but you need to be sure your headlight is on all of the time, or you might burn out your regulator.

If you leave them disconnected, you won't have full charging power and your battery might die.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.

In the stock switch, these wires were connected when the headlight was turned on and then disconnected when the headlight was turned off. I don't know of any aftermarket switches that can do this.

You can use a relay to do this, but I would just connect them together and get a modern regulator/rectifier.

Yes. That will work.

We also have one on our website for $45 ($10 shipping costs). Our version is LI-ION compatible, too.

Hello again!! I will need a little bit more help from your expertise.

I would like to wire a new ignition switch.

My original old switch has 4 wires and two positions: OFF - ON - Parking Light

Red - 12v power
Orange - probably gives power to coils, speedometer etc
Grey - parking light
Brown - tail light

My new ignition switch has also 4 cables:

Red - power
Black - ??
Black & White - probably ground
Green - ???

When i use the mutlimeter i see that red and black are together when is on and black/white and green are together when is off

The new switch has off and on only.

Any help how i will wire everything together?

Thanks a lot,

I really appreciate your help

Aris

From new switch to old switch:

Red-> Red
Black -> Orange

Skip all of the other wires.
