hey guys!

i dissassembled my RD 250 clutch yesterday, everything seemed to be fine except that the pad on the motorside was somehow broken.
so i guess i´ll need replacement.

what would you guys put into that little smoker?found ebc clutch pads et cetera cant really figure the difference between the brands.
is there any way to improve the performance of my clutch when i´ll replace it anyways, like new springs or bettter pads?

i guess that no one would think about replacing in our 2 disk pads, all pads need to be replaced.

thanks in advance.

Yeah replace 'em all.
They should all pretty much perform the same, it's a pretty archaic simple system.
Stiffer springs could help but if your clutch wasn't slipping before and you aren't adding a bunch of power it would really just increase the effort required to pull the clutch with little to no actual benefit.

The clutch either works correctly and holds or it slips from adjustment or wear. If it works correctly there's no way to improve on that. Only the government tries to fix working things till it's broke. ;D

That's so wrong that it's not even funny.

Inner plates on Yamahas tend to crack when ridden hard. On a TZ, we often have to replace 2 or 3 plates per race weekend. If the plates are all fiber they can be replaced with aluminum core plates which are more durable. Also check the basket for wear. Brad J is correct.

im rebuilding the RD for street use which doesnt mean i´m not gonna rid it hard :)
being on a budget what is the price difference to normal fiber plates to the ones with aluminium core?

i guess that the clutch was never swapped, its been in there for 33.000 KM so i think im gonna replace the whole plates.

where do i check the basket for wear?do you mean the inner one with the plates or the outer one?
i dont see any marks of wear, but maybe becuz im a noob :) to clutches.

Do the fingers that the disk slide into have groves beat in them

will look that up as soon as i come home!

any recommendations on the brand of the clutch pads?:

Prices:

EBC 60 euro
Lucas 80 euro
Vesrah 90 euro
Yamaha original 112 euro

Stock OEM are fine for most use. Some guys like to use Barnett plates but they tend to be sticky when cold and great when hot. In your case, EBC would be a good choice. Try any RD specialist in the UK if you can't find plates locally.

sorry for the late answer.
the fingers of the clutch look fine, the metal plates too,no discoloration no bending no scratches.will replace the clutch pads.

i have a yamaha classic specialist in germany who ships internationally,he sells discontinued yamaha parts and i will stick to the original qualitiy (17 euro per plate) so around 120 euro for the whole clutch.
quite pricy but he recommended me taking these parts, and seriously i dont want to mess with my clutch by using cheap parts.

Check out EBC plates. They will probably be cheaper than OEM and will be much better quality that Yamaha factory parts.

+1 to this ^
120 Euro for clutch plates is just dumb, especially for factory parts.
