The first attempt didn't come out flat enough. The pictures make it look really shiny, but it wasn't. Not flat enough to be flat, and not shiny enough to be shiny. It just looked like a shitty paint job in person.
Tried again and sanded down the matte clear. This time, they added a second flattening agent to the the matte clear and nailed it. This is just what I was looking for.
It's hard to photograph, but it has a slight sheen to it. It's flat but not dull. Some of the metallic elements in the paint still shine under certain light. It's a really cool effect.
