That's where I got the tank for my XS650 vintage roadracer.

Yeah..i'm stuck with what i got for bodywork for a while, hence the blacked out tank & panels..i'm going to scotchbrite
the wheels and all the aluminum to have the satin finish..new rubber(K70's..old dunlop tt100 style), redone seat, but i'm doing the rivit thing ala CB400 Four style, and maybe a Ducati style wind screen..think Buell but with a lens..i'll save the pic next time
Oury Grips & dog leg levers in black..farme back to black from baby shit yellow, cb350 four front fender(sits closer to tire & quite a bit narrower, yeah, it fits), trim up the rear fender a bit, maybe even knee indents on the tank(buddy owns a sheet metal shop & welder)..AND maybe a tail piece..if i'm inspired..just takes money and time..which i am not real liquid at this time..lots of chopper parts getting dusty on the shelf..life goes on

I was looking for an original tank ... but the ebayr's of the world wanted an arm and both my legs for any that ended up on the site. Found the guy in Scotland and he ended up being a hell of a lot cheaper. The only catch was that shipping took forever.

Noel ... you may want to charter a plane for the return ride. With the stuff available in the UK for cafe bikes, your plastic will be maxed out in no time. In fact you may want to have that credit limit increased .... HHHHHhaaaaaahahaha.

Make sure you post some pics of you trip or any neat item you find.

I'm addicted to aluminium tanks. I tried to get one for my 400/4 for the longest time. Finally talked Evan Wilcox to make one, but it was hard, and he still didn't get it the way I wanted... Here are some shots of the Guzzi I recently sold and my present W650:

Like the w650. I would have bought one if I could have found one before buying my R75/6.

I've had Beemers all my riding life, but your bike is one I still haven't had but would like to get hold of someday. Just not enough space/money. I saw one in San Francsico w the large tank that was done all Dover white, including the frame. That image has haunted me for all this time.
I sold my R65LS with 86K on it that I bought new. A superlative bike that just got a little tall and heavy as I got shorter and - well, older, I guess. The rides aren't really all that different, but I just LOVE this bike.
Brads Bikes has one right now w only 2700 miles for $4800 right now. If you get interested again, sometimes they come up at the W650 group at Yahoo, and of course, Ebay.

I picked this one up a few days after I sold my 550F. It sat in a dealership for pretty much all the 80's and 90's on display. I picked it up from someone who hardly used it after picking it up in the mid-90's.

30K miles, and completely original. Only thing I had to sort out was a bit of wiring in the headlight bucket. It had a fairing on it at some point, so there was a bit of splicing, and the headlight relay wasn't the right one. Quick trip to my BMW dealer sorted the relay out.

Paid a decent CAD$4200 for it - not cheap, but I felt pretty good about it considering the condition. I'd love to pick up one of the giant enduro Heinrich(sp?) tanks, but seeing dented old ones go for $1500 kind of puts it low on the list of things to acquire.

Pics of it are here:

Quite possibly the best all 'round BMW ever made. In the top 20 of all motorcycles. Those are facts because i said so.
