Ural 2WD project

Hello everyone. I would like to tell my story of big ass project. When I was still at uni I noticed I have enough knowledge to build something interesting in my nifty garage. Then I found few parts of one of Soviet Russia military Ural 2 wheel drive motorcycle and the journey began! First thing I did i changed front part of the frame because I knew (experience) that old thrust ball bearings wont last long with a sidecar. Thrust spherical are way better! Few more welds and bits like disc brake cylinders, late 50s saddle, cylinder heads protection were fitted as well. Original bike was produced in 70s and way different than todays models.

This thing will be powered up by tuned engine. For better handling I made leading link forks. Yes it looks nasty at first but it will get better!

Indeed. Had to cut off tons of scribbles. But the bright side is I was building welding experience and 'bedded in' homemade MIG welder.
Besides the wont be bling bling shiny shiny putted on a shelf for collecting dusts. It be for roads, dirt, sand and ice. I sprayed parts with high class corrosion resistant alkyd only.

If you noticed I left old brake system as well. Brake shoes works as well on a front and back just in case you need to change whole wheel with brake disc spacers with another older rim. All you need to do just connect cable and block brake pads from moving.

Got a right sidecar from DNEPR MT12 and converted into old school KMZ M72 or early K750 style with foreigners voltmeter and motohours clocks.

Sidecar gear system been reworked. It was fitted with some soviet russian retro sized seals which I couldnt find on market. So after few visits to lathe turner I fitted new double seals. Just in case in leaks. I noticed that all old parts which were done on lates in 60-70s doesnt have good centering. This is good discovery before rebuilding the engine!
